My name is 'nic'
(Nicolas James Doye), I am
38
, married, male, vegetarian (ex-
vegan),
childhood cancer
survivor and father of two.
I enjoy cycling, and have recently taken up running (very slowly).
I am a coder/escaped sysadmin. During the daytime, I work as a
Reporting Systems Engineer at Ericsson. Obviously, I don't speak for
them, etc.
I am no longer a member of any political party. I am a bit of an
environmentalist, a bit on the left-wing side, and I support
Make Votes Count
because
"one 'man' one vote" should mean something.
I try an buy
organic and
fair trade food when
possible. I boycott some evil corporations and choose the nicer ones
(like the co-op banks, shops, etc.). Oh, also
Make Trade Fair and
Make Poverty History
- now! I support
Oxfam as they support these
movements and do great work.
I believe in
Free
Software (sometimes called 'Software Libre'). I believe in the
rights to copy and back-up my own CDs, DVDs, etc. so I support the
EFF. So-called "CDs" which can not
play in a computer, DVD player or car stereo are useless. So called
encryption schemes for DVDs are doubly so. I am against
software-patents
as they help no-one.
My
RHCE
(in RHEL3) has now expired. I use
Ubuntu on the desktop,
Red Hat/
CentOS and
SUSE
on servers.
I like
Perl,
Java,
Groovy,
Grails,
PostgreSQL,
Derby and
Oracle.
Check out
Tomcat,
JBoss and
Glassfish.
I'm really just an ordinary bloke. I'm not as nice, dull or serious
as the above might suggest. I'm also human - I don't live up to my
own standards. Oh well,... :-)
